Norway
My Travel Diary

Norway

Just a small distance away from the north pole of the earth on a barren stretch of a frozen lake where the pearly radiance of ice illuminates the horizon like a glowing thread, I am reclining on crafty sled busy enjoying the hospitality of Angis and of Delfin, Furoe and Adrian. " Ha Delfin Ha...Buck-up Adrian..." Angies said in a peppy voice and our royal carriage moved. What? you didn't understand.... well I am having a sled ride with Alaskan huskies away in the northern Norway, on the island  of Tromsoya What? no clues again, never been to Norway?.... well then why don't you  take short detour from your regular plebeian route and enjoy this Norwegian delight with me. Tour Itinerary Delhi's skyline had an air of invisibility literally, having been covered in thick ...

Ageing gracefully

Perhaps compare to the rest of the day, the Sun looks most beautiful in the twilight when the cloudy wrinkles enhance its aesthetic features making it glow with the trueness of its colours. Hi Shishir; Surprised? Oh! Don't be. My voice sounds a little shaded yet so familiar. you should look at my picture, the lines have grown so beautifully and bold to colour the crepuscular hue, juxtaposing me in you. Yes, I am you on your seventieth birthday. Twenty-two years from now you yourself will have the insight to see the revelation I am about to make. But today, you have the right to choose a path that leads on to me or paint a completely different picture of you. Because, while the process of ageing is mandatory by the eternal rule ageing gracefully, on the other hand, is a mere matter o...

All in a day’s work

The distance was hardly a concern, just about two and a half kilometres that too on a recently decked up masterplan motorway, of course, you got to accommodate the rainy day disasters, the popped up blisters of sewage flooding the sideways of the main road but that's true for any Indian road and any Indian city, if it is truly Indian. So, even with the delay correction for the rains, it shouldn't have taken us more than twenty minutes to reach the hospital from where the call to attend an emergency C- section had come. But did we just underestimated the true capabilities of our beloved nation, I say, we did. And grossly so. After a particularly long and hot summer when practically every single soul in the city was looking at the sky for a morsel of kindness with beggared eyes, the ...

। I have a very strange yet bonding relationship with words they hover over my consciousness like a flowery Bumbershoot, far enough to not decorate my speech yet close enough to rescue my amateurish writing. Yesterday, how...

Moksha….The Himalayan Spa Resort

Some names do not need any justification for their keeping, this one certainly belongs to the category I am talking about.  When I stood glaring at the surreal charm of the horizon at the hour of the eventide when the glittering golden hue of the water from the infinity pool was kissing the skyline, the word that seized me at that moment was... MOKSHA.  Yes, that's the name of the resort I reached, for one of my weekend get-aways. Moksha The Himalayan Spa Resort situated atop a hillock, about 30 mins drive from Chandigarh, providing panoramic view of the mystical Shivalik ranges is a place to be if you want to escape from the evil clutches of the mortal burdens. As I ascended up in my cable car leaving behind all that the mundane world was tying me with, I had a bit of une...

Rurban Picnic

Grand Masti... Me Time-You time Bus-full of beauties in a mood ready to rock-n-roll and with a look edging to kill of course, a skimble- scamble like myself rippled out to occupy the far corner seat. But the quiet confines this cornering out had its own privileges in providing the panoramic view of the spectacle. This writing which is becoming a vade mecum is but just a tribute. Carry On RURBAN The buoyant yet incandescent spirit of Picnic carried me to a place called Rurban Village not far from here where the beauties staged a Latto dance, the adventurous walked on shaky rope and the attitude battled at the edge of the shimmering blue.  COME ALONG Shshhh... Eat quietly warden i...

Weekend Funda…Go Missing

I am not endorsing the old hedonistic theory that pursuit of pleasure and material goods is the primary goal of life but the statement that the 'desire for happiness is the basic human trait, resonates in the realms of reality. For me this pursuit of happiness embellishes itself in my own doctrine of detoxification. One hour with thy body and one day with thy mind...Go missing from the world. One hour a day for your body and one every week or at least a fortnight you should go missing, away from, your routine world of prohibitions, inhibitions and limitations, from work and duties and should make a conscious effort of detoxifying the body and mind. Oh! Hell with the philosophy... just go missing...Disappear. When the wheels of my car got rolling again in this...
Dalhousie

Dalhousie

There are days when I feel this incessant urge to get away from the maddening maze of macadam materiality towards more serene lap of mother nature. Even if it means trending uncertain paths, even if I am not sure of the destination  ...that's my idea of UNWIND....pack my bag, put on the traveller hat, grab my XUV 500 keys....and whoosh.... start rolling.   During one of such phases of burdening routine and bitten by the unwind bug, I found myself standing atop a small cliff , akimbo, with torrent showery wind gushing past me... what a lovely embrace of nature. The market square of small hamlet called Dalhousie which just a moment ago was bustling with the busy traffic movement of cars and taxies, the penalties of modern day living, was replaced by the euphonious echo of the hustling w...
